Mataro: Cosy Triplex B&B (Airbnb)
Bike Route: Tossa de Mar to Mataro, 35 miles, 2200 feet of climb
This stretch of the Costa Brava was pretty, but not as spectacular as the segment from Sant Feliu to Tossa de Mar. We were mostly on the main coastal highway with a lot of traffic, but we also had some stretches on smaller roads through towns and parkland.
Mataro is a big city--more like urban sprawl. The real treats were our accommodations and hosts. Mayra works with a nonprofit to support developing populations, and Marco works for Vodafone. They just bought a farm near Santander and hope to have it up and running as an agroturisme within a year. They are young and enthusiastic and perfect hosts. We had a room in their apartment. Everything was immaculate and uncluttered and tastefully decorated. We were so comfortable with them.
Mayra recommended a restaurant nearby, but it didn't open until 8:00. That is really late for us. Especially now, when it is dark by that time. We headed out about 7:00, intending to find something else that was open, but we didn't see anything that looked nearly as nice as the place she had suggested. So we ended up waiting until 8:00 and having a fantastic dinner at Casa de Pepe Mataro.
