Bike Route: Agroturisme to Campos and back for lunch/dinner, 6 miles, 0 feet of climb
Another easy day of riding on country lanes under partly sunny skies at a perfect 65-70 degrees. We started out climbing 400 feet through parkland to get around a bluff south of the finca (farm) we were staying at. We pedaled through olive groves; pecan groves; farms with sheep, goats, cows, and pigs; and little towns. We saw very few cars.
About noon, we arrived in Llucmajor, on market day. The main square was hopping with food stands, and all the coffee shops and bakeries and bars around the square were open and full. We saw several other cyclists, but not the huge groups and numbers that we had encountered around Caimari and Lluc.
We found a stand selling a sweet Hungarian pastry called Kurtoskalacs (Chimney Cake). The cake is made from a sweet dough, coated with honey, roasted on a wooden cone over a charcoal fire, and rolled in sugar, almonds, cinnamon, or coconut. The couple making the cakes were from Budapest and have lived in Mallorca since 2009. They love Mallorca, but also go back to visit family in their home town near Vienna every year. We were in Budapest two years ago. We love making cross-cultural connections like this.
After checking in to our studio terrace apartment on an olive-growing farm 3 miles south of Campos, we cycled back to Campos for a traditional Mallorcan lunch/dinner of barbecued pork, hamburger, and French fries.
Back out on the farm, we said hello to the dogs, talked about cycling and bikes with our host's dad, and settled in for an early night.
