Alcudia: Fonda Llabres Hotel Boutique (Airbnb)

Bike Route: Son Alzines to Alcudia, 19 miles, 400 feet of climb

It rained hard during the night. The roads were still damp and it was dark and misty and chilly when we got up. We pulled out the tights, long-fingered gloves, fleece jackets, and wool socks, and took ourselves over to the main house for breakfast. That was a feast of local meats, cheeses, eggs, fruit, juice, coffee, sweet rolls, olives, tomatoes. Luckily, our route was 95 percent downhill; I don't think I could have pushed myself up any steep climbs after all that food.

The ride down to Alcudia went quickly. Much of the route was the reverse of  our first day on the island--going back through Pollenca and down the coast to Alcudia. This time, we passed dozens of kite surfers along one stretch of the coast. The wind was strong and the waves were pretty high; I think you would have to be strong and daring to try that sport.

Our hotel in Alcudia was right in the center of Old Town, within the castle walls. We had a small room on the top floor, and climbing up another flight of steps to the rooftop terrace gave us an expansive 360-degree view of the whole region. We could look back to the mountains we had just cycled down, out to the sea, and down to Port de Alcudia, where we stayed when we arrived on Mallorca.

It's hard to believe our cycle tour of Spain is basically over. Just another short ride to the ferry in Port de Alcudia, and one more short ride from the ferry to our apartment in Barcelona tomorrow.

The coast road from Port de Pollenca to Port de Alcudia.

It was a little too cold and windy for most swimmers.

Alcudia is another fortified medieval city, with walls and gates and stone streets and narrow alleyways.

The rooftop terrace above our hotel room offered 360-degree views.

Looking down from the window of our hotel room onto the plaza outside the hotel, early in the morning. By 10:00 this plaza was swarming with tourists.
