2025 Italy, Day 60: Garda, Night 3 of 4

If you would like to see details about our journey, check out our itinerary and our bike route.

Rest day. After another noisy night, Ken woke up with a headache and muscle aches. We were glad to be able to stay in place for the day, but we did have errands planned. The first was to trek across old town to the nearest laundromat. Ken thought that little walk would be good for him. We set off.

The laundromat was in a small, dank, dirty basement room with just a few washers and dryers, one of them broken. We had to buy a token for the washer. The machine would issue one token for 5 euros, or five tokens for 20 euros. We had 1 euro in coin, plus a 20-euro note. Ken was fading fast, and we didn't want to take the time to search out a store to get change. So we spent our 20-euro note and bought five tokens. We used one and left the other four on the table for the next customer.

We were able to prop the door open and sit outside on a little stone bench while the washer ran.

A half hour later, we gathered our damp clothes and started to walk back to the apartment. As we went, Ken's muscle cramps got worse, to the point where he had to lie down on a bench for a few minutes before continuing. I worried that he would keel over on the stone streets and suffer head trauma. We were both a little worried that there was something going on with his cancer.

We finally made it back to the apartment, dosed Ken up with ibuprofen and acetaminophen and water and electrolytes. We kept the apartment dark and quiet for the rest of the day. I read and went on a grocery run. Ken woke up a couple times with fever and chills, headache, muscle aches. He felt well enough to eat a small supper of pasta with sauce, some fruit, some water.

Not fun.

Closed up the windows, turned on the fan, added a blanket to the bed, and tried to get some sleep.
