Rest day. We had prepared an optional day loop up to a lake for lunch, but that did not happen.
Instead, we had a leisurely late breakfast, and went back to bed for a nap--actually, we laid down to read and fell asleep for several hours.
When we woke up, we stuffed our dirty clothes into our saddlebags and biked back down the hill and across the river to Belluno. It was a pretty day, cool and sunny, and the ride with almost empty packs was easy.
We decided to start with lunch and a little sightseeing around the old piazze in the center of town. We found a ristorante with a terrace overlooking the river, and ordered a big salad and a thin-crust pizza (it had a special name; we can't remember what). Both dishes were good. The host let us put our bikes in her storeroom while we were eating, and asked about our trip as we were getting them back out afterward. Like a lot of people, she was surprised that we are not riding e-bikes; we do see a lot of e-bikes with older riders, though most of the younger riders are on regular high-end road bikes.
Next we rode around the old streets and took a few photos.
Then it was up to a newer part of town to a laundromat, and 45 minutes of reading while the washer spun.
Across town to another terrace for artisanal gelato.
Back down the hill to the grocery store for more food.
Back across the river and up the other side to our little apartment, where we hung the clothes on the line outside our door.
More of the same pasta for dinner, plus cookies and chocolate and tomatoes and mushrooms.
That's all, folks. Rest day one, done.
