Ken spent the morning setting up his new Wahoo. I paid bills; got travel forms, waivers, and down payments made for a trek around Mont Blanc next summer; did laundry; blogged. Every couple of weeks, we need a little time for the little things.
Late morning, Meghan joined us and we all three headed out to explore the old town of Ancona. It was a nice walk, about a mile to the first chiesa on our list. We had picked out an interesting restaurant (La Degosteria) that opened at 12:30 for lunch, and were the first to be seated in the high-ceilinged, airy dining room with a view of the harbor and large ferries two blocks away. We had an excellent, relaxed lunch with several kinds of pasta and fish, finishing with Degomisu (the restaurant's version of tiramisu) and caffe (me), caffe latte (Meghan), and cappuccino (Ken).
After lunch, we continued our exploration of the harbor area for an hour or so, then made our way back to the local grocery store and our apartment. We ate a leisurely dinner pulled together from an assortment of food we had accumulated in the kitchen, and all went to bed a little early. A nice, quiet day.

Ancona is the capital of the Marche region. It is a small city with a good-sized natural port that is among the largest in Italy for international ferry service. |

At lunch, Meghan was talking about copying the beautiful old shutters in Italy by painting the shutter doors of a closet in her condo in Lakewood, Colorado. I snapped this photo outside the window of the restaurant, showing a soft greenish color I thought would look good. |

The food was good. Our plates were clean. |
