Another day at the beach. This time, we took the 94 bus to Portonovo, about a half hour away, near the far end of the Conero Regional Park that starts near the edge of the harbor in Ancona, and is known for small restaurants serving local seafood. We chose the Emilia Ristorante, a family-run place with a small, quiet beach, chairs and umbrellas, SUPs, canoes (kayaks), and even a boat with captain that tours the bay in the late afternoon.
The water was cool and inviting. We waded out and just enjoyed the sun and quiet, watching kids jump from the pier not too far away, and boats and paddleboards scoot around the shoreline.
The owner of Emilia's passed out bottles of water gratis, his wife fit us into the lunch schedule, his daughter rented us chairs and an umbrella, his son sold us cold drinks and snacks. Meghan and I each finished one book and started another. Ken and I swam and floated in the water whenever we got a little restless.
Our lunch reservation was for 14:00. We had a corner table in the shade, feet from the shore, with the wind blowing and the waves lapping. We shared plates of grilled mixed fish and spaghetti with the famous local mussels.
By late afternoon, we were ready to ride the bus back to town and wander back up the hill to our apartment.
Portonovo is a beautiful beach set in a quiet cove about 10 miles from our apartment in Ancona. |
Those two people standing (sitting?) in the water are me and Ken. |
