What a pleasant ride up the valley, through orchards and cornfields and sunflower fields, on an old railroad bed. As the day went on, the heat built (I know; same old story). By the time we reached the basilica at the lower edge of Assisi, it was midafternoon and hot. By the time we reached our apartment near the upper edge of Assisi, it was even hotter.
But really, I'm not complaining. Umbria is beautiful. The green hills and golden valleys, stone villages and towns, castles and cathedrals--lovely.
Our apartment is on the ground level of an ancient house with 3-foot-thick tufa walls. We have two bedrooms, a modern kitchen and bathroom, a washer, WiFi, and AC. We should be comfortable here for the next week.
