2023 United Kingdom, Day 45: Meltham

Bike Route: Hebden Bridge to Meltham National Route 17mi 2100ft of climb

Accommodation: Mill Stream Cottage (Airbnb); host Margaret. Self-contained studio with a double bed, a kitchenette, and an ensuite shower room with toilet, bifold doors to garden; kettle, fridge, washing machine.

Dinner: Fish and chips from the local shop, eaten in the garden behind our studio.

We were so happy to have a shorter day, though we still had plenty of climbing. After a wonderful breakfast in our room, supplied by Manya, we headed out around 9:30 and made our way back into the hills and dales.

We hadn't realized that we would be spending so much time in the Yorkshire Dales. They are vast. Considering how densely populated much of England is, it is amazing that we have spent weeks cycling through sparsely populated farmlands and national parks.

Meltham is a small village with several pubs and shops. We checked out the pub our host recommended, but it was crowded and noisy, so we opted to get fish and chips and take it back to the quiet patio outside our studio. We did some laundry, enjoyed the sun, and went to bed early (as usual).

A short stretch of our ride was along a dam on a gravel trail.
