Bike Route: Apartment to laundromat and bike shop, about 2mi
Accommodation: Rosemount Cottage (Airbnb); hosts Cottages.com and David
Dinner: Our apartment: Scrambled eggs with black pepper ewe's milk cheese and spinach, tomatoes, cheese scones, and chicken and leek pie.
We followed the usual rest-day routine, starting with a trip to the laundromat. When we got there, the machines required change, the laundromat had no change machine, and we had no change. Guessing that the businesses nearby were constantly being asked for coins, Ken first tried a bus driver parked a few steps away; nope. At a shop around the corner, Ken was able to get five pounds in coins, but we needed six. At a fudge and candy store, I bought a Kendal mint cake for 1.25 pounds and got us enough change to go back to the laundromat.
While the clothes washed, we rode to a bike shop, where we got the tires pumped up and bought some hydration tablets and an energy bar. Back at the laundromat, we picked up our wet clothes and took them to the apartment to hang in the sun.
We were determined to make the most of our rest day, but the little below-ground-floor apartment was not terribly comfortable and we were restless, so we walked back into town to window shop and get lunch.
It didn't take long for us to find a store selling good-quality rain jackets. I tried on a few and was close to buying one, but decided to wait a day; I was still not completely sure which of three brands I wanted.
The next store had that jacket on sale for 20 percent off. I bought it.
We picked up a few supplies for dinner in our apartment, and wandered back to sit on the patio in the sun for a while, then went inside to review and finalize our bike routes for another week. Somehow, the day faded away.
