France: Saint-Felicien, Day 3

Bike: From our cottage to town and back, 2 miles

Accommodation: Stone cottage (Airbnb)

We were not going to get on our bikes for three whole days. But....We needed to go to town for groceries, and it's so much faster on the bikes, and it's a nice day. So, okay, we got the bikes out of the garage, put on the backpacks, and coasted down the hill.

We didn't go until after 15:00 because the boucherie (butcher) and co-op and fromagerie (cheese shop) would all be open then. Our mission was to get all local foods. And we did. It was great fun translating labels and ordering and paying in French. We are not quite sure what kind of cheese we got, but we know it is goat (chevre). Otherwise, mostly, we have learned the names for common things like potatoes, tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, carrots, apples, chicken, pork, and beef.

We did another load of laundry, and I spent a couple of hours paying bills, catching up on emails, applying for the Affordable Connection Program (to get a discount on our internet bill once we get home), ordering a birthday gift for my brother. Ken read a book about local historical building techniques and oiled and pumped the bikes. We made a big dinner of chicken cordon bleu (purchased already assembled at the butcher shop), green beans, and yellow potatoes.

It rained a little in the evening, and the air cooled off about 10 degrees. The weather forecast for the next couple of weeks shows temps in the 70s and some rain. It looks like fall may finally be arriving. We are ready to haul out the warmer clothes.

It was fun to see back-to-school pics of Josh and Konur on Facebook today. We talked with them and their parents yesterday. Mary messaged me from the kennel to say that Izzie is running low on treats, so I ordered a resupply from Chewy.com to be delivered to her Friday. How different it is to travel now, being able to connect with home, friends, and family so easily!

Josh is starting grade 10, Konur is starting grade 7.

Izzie is getting plenty of attention from Mary and Eli at the kennel.
