Bike: Moulins-Engilbert to Nevers, 47 miles, 1000 feet of climb
Accommodation: Charmant Logement Centre Ville (Airbnb); host Alexis. Ground-floor apartment five minutes from the center of town, one bedroom, kitchen, wifi, washer.
Brainless biking. Mile after mile of spinning along the canal on a dedicated bike trail, greeting other bikers, stopping for snacks and water breaks frequently, talking, thinking, daydreaming, soaking in the sun with a cool breeze pushing behind at times, ahead at times. We could feel ourselves unwinding, relaxing, getting ready for our rest day in Nevers.
When we stopped for lunch, we met up with a group of four bikers from Australia. They were on rented e-bikes, taking a weeklong trip before a son's wedding in Geneva. He would be marrying the daughter of a famous designer who creates watches for the very rich and famous. The wedding would continue on Corsica, I think they said. They were in-laws--another son is married to a daughter. All four were great fun to talk with.
Our apartment in Nevers was big and clean and comfortable. We loaded up with groceries at a nearby boucherie and grocery store, had a simple dinner in the apartment, did laundry, watched Norah O'Donnell on the CBS Evening News.
Another good day.
