Bike (Ken and Cheryl): 13 miles, 650 feet of climb

Train (Meghan and Konur)

Lunch: Cafe in the gardens at Versailles

Dinner: apartment

Accommodation: Apartment (Airbnb); host Fabrice

Day 1 of biking for Ken and me. We all got an early start because we had tickets to enter Versailles at 11:00. For Ken and me, it was all city and highway riding, nothing difficult but slower than normal because of traffic. We had permission to drop off our bikes and luggage right at 11:00, and had to get through the gate at Versailles no later than 11:30. The apartment was just a 15-minute walk from the palace, but we were watching the clock.

Meghan and Konur took the train from Paris--actually, several trains because the one they were supposed to take was out of service. They arrived at the apartment just a few minutes before 11:00, we all quickly freshened up, and then we hiked over to Versailles. We spent several hours wandering from room to room, exploring the gardens, and eating lunch. It truly is an incredible place.

Masking was common in Paris and Versailles. We were glad, because the popular sites really were crowded.

Hall of Mirrors.

My sister says that in this photo, Konur and I look a lot alike. I think he looks like our dad and her son Derek. He must have the Miller nose and mouth. But this photo is really about us standing in front of the fountain in the gardens at Versailles. How cool is that?

Konur is eating ice cream. Three years ago, his older brother, Josh, joined Ken, Meghan, and me on a similar bike trip along the Danube River in Germany. Josh's advice to Konur for this trip in France: You should get ice cream every day!
