France: Paris, Day 4

 Bastille Day

Walk: from the apartment to Notre Dame and Pont Neuf, and back

Accommodation: 9 Rue Casimir Delavigne, Paris, France; host Raoni

We had plans to walk to Place de la Concorde by 10:15 to watch the military parade, especially the air maneuvers, but we all slept late and missed it. Meghan decided to take the day off. Konur, Ken, and I made it to Pont Neuf in time to see the helicopters fly by at the end of the parade. After that, we walked around Notre Dame and took pictures. By then, it was already over 90 degrees, so we headed back to the cool apartment and spent the afternoon resting and reading and packing for our early departure the next day. Let the biking begin!

On the way to Pont Neuf, we walked through a small market and found artisan pastries.

Meghan and I tried to visit Notre Dame 20 years ago, but it was covered in scaffolding for renovations and closed to the public. This year, it is again closed to the public, this time for rebuilding after the big fire of 2022. The front facade and lower stone walls are still there, and the setting and plaza are a popular meeting and photo spot.

One more French hamburger and fries for out young American guy.
