Gijon

Bike Route: Oviedo to Gijon, 26 miles, 1600 feet of climb

We had a beautiful, fairly easy ride and arrived in Gijon about 4:00 pm. Our host, Mina, was lovely. She was on her way out for lunch and showed us around the apartment quickly. We had one bedroom, a single guy was in the second bedroom, and Mina had the third room. We unpacked, showered, and hiked to the promenade and old fort along the Playa de San Lorenzo. We stopped and had cold drinks, cheese, and fritters, then headed back to the apartment, pausing again along the way for a little dinner. We were tired after all the excitement of our first day on the road, and went to bed early.

Most of our route was on small highways, but we also had a few miles of easy two-tire track.

It was a little chilly, but people were still swimming in the early evening on the beach in Gijon.

The old fort is now a park with walking trails. There were no signs or descriptions posted. I don't know if this structure was part of the fort or a monument.
