Oviedo, Day 4

The Old Town already feels like home. About 9:00, we found a small outdoor cafe for breakfast, bought a few more groceries at the Mercado, and wandered around in the sunshine for an hour before returning to the apartment to do a load of laundry and other small chores. Around noon, we headed out again to explore a few more streets and make reservations at a seafood restaurant for dinner. We are feeling ready to move on to Gijon tomorrow.

A bird joined us for breakfast and finished up the crumbs from our tortilla de patatas and bread.

Hundreds of statues and sculptures appear all over Oviedo.

A folklore festival in the main plaza included gaita--a type of bagpipe brought to Spain by the Visigoths in the 5th to 8th centuries. Our apartment is near a music school, and we kept hearing bagpipes during the week; now we know why!
